A Horse Called War - Good For Glue (And Nothing Else)

When A Horse Called War re-emerged after more than a decade away, Good For Glue (And Nothing Else) was the statement they chose to make. Released in November 2019 on APF Records, this five-track EP marked the first new music from the East Anglian sludge collective since 2007’s Stumble At Every Hurdle.

From the opening assault of Dog Is Dead through to the crushing finale of Woodpusher, the record captures the band’s signature blend of sludge, doom, crust and stoner grit – a sound as uncompromising as their name suggests. Recorded, mixed and mastered by guitarist Dave at Bomb Store Studios, it delivers thick riffs, lurching grooves and raw, visceral vocals that shift from hardcore bellows to gang chants and snarling spoken passages. Tracks like Old One Eye and Don Frye demonstrate their knack for balancing sheer heaviness with dynamic changes in tempo and texture, never letting the chaos descend into monotony.

Good For Glue (And Nothing Else) isn’t just a return – it’s a reassertion. A Horse Called War pick up the torch once carried by the UK sludge underground of Iron Monkey and Charger, while proving they’ve carved out their own identity in the modern heavy landscape. Released in limited digipak CD and cassette editions with artwork by Wesley K Brown – both now sold out – the EP stands as a fierce reminder of why this band mattered before, and why they matter again.
